Here's hoping!

I am SO excited! For baby 3 we are planning to exclusively cloth diaper. My friend offered to sell me some of hers. Then she came across a great deal and added even more to my stash. For $150 I have ALL the diapers I need from birth til baby 3 is potty trained! What a deal!!! Now, I am sure I will still buy a few because I am a sucker for the adorable patterns but I will try and limit it because we are cloth diapering to save money. I wish I could be cool and say it is for the environment, but it's not. It's all about the money savings for us! LOL!
So, those of you who cloth diaper, can you share with me what detergents you use and also your washing regiment that you use?

I didn't cloth diaper, but I loved Dreft's stain removal abilities. Kept my kiddos clothing VERY clean. Kelsey managed to get poo on everything daily. Dreft got it out! I used liquid and powdered both (depending on sales) and the stain remover. I have heard that Tide Free and Clear is the same with out the perfume. Could be possible because Dreft is made by Tide. The only downside to Dreft is it's cost...it rarely goes on sale and coupons are hard to come by.

You are brave.

If an aunt who's ... maybe ... less-than-brave ... wants to offer to watch #3 some time ... can she bring her own Pampers? :)

Trinka - You may but you may also be surprised how easy they are now. Even your brother is not nervous of the cloth! He is pretty excited! =)

Hmmm ... I've also heard him say he's "excited" about Christmas carols. Is this the same kind of "excited" or a different kind?

VERY different! LOL!!!! In fact some of the diapers you just snap or velcro on! Others have some folding involved but he already has it down pat! We may practice on the Hippie!

I didn't use cloth diapers, but I used Dreft for the boys clothes... BUT my mother in law uses All free and Clear with my niece and it seems to work just as good, and much much cheaper than Dreft! I am sure you will find something that works for you and Baby #3...

Morgan - Thanks! The Hippie had an allergic reaction to All so we don't use that kind. The Genius appears to be allergic to Cheer! LOL!

For both Jacob and this baby I used All Baby... I wash my undergarments in it too, since I can't have the detergents... For stain removals I used the oxy clean baby and it's awesome!! :)

I did cloth all the time (except Church for church) with Donna and Kathlyn. Along with breastfeeding I can't imagine how much moolah we saved and I feel like I have definitely done my "green thing" (note to Al Gore). When we had Seth my husband said "enough". He is very much a hands on daddy even w/ the diapies, poopie and all. We just had plain ole, plain ole white w/ those humongo rubber britches!
haha. I would love doing cloth these days with all the fancy choices. Have fun!

I actually use homemade laundry detergent to wash my cloth diapers (I'm like you--all about saving money!). It works well, and gets 'em clean.

When I exclusively breastfed Natalie, I did NOTHING to the diapers before tossing them in the washer. I did one "quick wash" cycle of cold water and sometimes baking soda, then a hot water wash with homemade detergent. All the poo washed out, nothing left on the diapers, in the washer, etc.

Now that she's on solid foods, I do have to dunk or dump the solid material off into the toilet. I just get off whatever comes off easily and then wash as above. Some people get a sprayer that attaches to the toilet to spray off the diapers rather than dunking or swishing---you can look into it if interested.

Congrats on the great deal!

Well, All would def be out.. The boys were allergic to everything.. I could only use Dreft and now I can only use Gain, since I started using that.. LOL.. Scared to switch!

I used cloth with 2 and 3. All I can remember is I soaked the soiled ones in a solution of liquid lysol and water for just a little while and then washed them daily. I never let them sit because stains and smells just sit in too quickly. I always had a bucket with the solution in it that I could toss them into until I could rinse and wash. Now these were the old, plain white cloth diapers. I don't know much about the newer ones. It does save a TON of money though!
