The Professor's Surgery

I would say the day was a success but it was not quite as easy as I'd heard from others.  They had him come in earlier in the morning since he was one of the youngest.  So I got up really early and had to wake him up.  Or course, he could not eat or drink anything.  We arrived at the hospital with ease! I was nervous about parking but it was a relatively easy parking garage for us to navigate.  I have never really been to a Children's Hospital and though it is sad that we have to have them, it was also really neat to see first hand all the amazing touches and the sweet volunteers looking to help.  Here is the Professor upon arrival.  At this point he was in great spirits!

A volunteer gave him a coloring book and crayons.  That kept him fairly happy until I changed his clothes.

He did not approve of the gown.  It seemed like at least 6 doctors and nurses came in to listen to his heart and ask me questions.  They were all nice and friendly, but he was convinced that now we were all done and ready to go.  They came in to give him relaxation medicine.  He took it well.  It did not make him sleepy but he calmed down and got all giggly.  He started pointing to Spiderman and saying, "It's Daddy!"
They came in to wheel him away.  He was not even fussing he just told he guy "ride" because he was pushing him.  He did give me a kiss though!  It seemed like forever til they brought him back to me but it was really only about 30 minutes.

I think this was where it got tough.  I have no pictures because he was very combative was literally shrieking and screaming at the top of lungs.  I was trying everything to settle him and nothing worked.  I was holding him, pushing him in the stroller.  Nothing helped.  He just screamed and screamed and screamed.  THEN the nurses say, "Yes, sometimes they do this." Thanks.  I was just not prepared for that.  I had to spend 30 minutes listening to him and not being able to settle him.  It was heartbreaking.  Finally we go to leave and that seemed to be what he wanted because he settled immediately once we left the little wing.
This was how he rode the whole way to the van.  He cried some more when I buckled him but then lookked around and realized we were in HIS van and he promptly fell asleep.  He slept the whole way home and slept a few hours after we got home.  When he woke up he was hungry and fussy but he has seemed to perk up as the day moves along!  Thanks for all the prayers!

More Numbers Dropping and Surgery Day

When life gets busy...it gets BUSY.  Tomorrow the Professor is having his surgery.  It is pretty minor and routine (tubes in his ears) but we are still nervous.  Wednesday we are finally closing our house and we are moving over the course of Sunday and Monday.  Today I went for my weekly blood draw and my numbers had dropped AGAIN..  The doctor was not worried and she did not change my medication, but this mama is worried.  It is especially hard being in the midst of moving.  I am nervous about lifting and worried I will over do it.  My husband is great about not letting me, but still, I do worry.  I go back next Monday to have another blood test and then next Wednesday is my next ultrasound.  I wish I was getting one this week but the doctor said there really is not a big concern.  My numbers just went down by one point.  For now, we are just praying so hard for this baby and to make it through these crazy days!

Nature Fun

Today a local park had an event where you could bring art supplies and create art!  Meanwhile, they had artists set up around the place doing their own paintings.  It was lots of fun! I took the kids and our small camera. It was neat, but man, did I get hot.  The Professor wore himself out running around.  We saw a snake and baby ground hog while we were there!

Spring Time Fun

It is amazing what two cups, two bowls, some and ice and water can do.  45 minutes of playtime for the Professor.  45 minutes for mommy to sit in the shade and swing! Nice!

Then today I got to go to school and the Genius participate in a Poetry Bash!  She and friend acted out a poem and she read one out loud that she wrote.

You know you have a boy when swinging on the porch swing involves a boy....and a basketball!

And my strongest pregnancy craving has been lemons and fruity, slushy drinks.  This was called Blueberry Breeze and was made with fresh pineapple and decaf blueberry tea!  There are also some pics of the Professor on our "new" mower and the kids all playing together!

Our Little Raspberry

We are now 8 1/2 weeks pregnant and our little baby is the size of a raspberry!  As I mentioned earlier, I did get a peek at the baby on Monday and the baby looked great!  My lab work did not come back with glowing results though.   My progesterone had dropped from 24.40 to 21.67.  Not a huge drop but they really want my level to be around 25.  Of course, after losing one baby, I went into a bit of a panic.  My doctor called me back though and assured me it was nothing to be concerned about yet.  She is switching me from an oral medicine to a suppository (fun, right???).  I got to pick it up today and then I go back Monday to have more blood work done.  Please be praying that the baby keeps getting bigger, healthier and stronger and that my numbers get up to where they are supposed to be.

Not much news other than that.  We are still anxiously awaiting to hear when we will close on our house.  I have been packing, but between laundry and the beautiful weather and being tired, I am afraid I never get enough done.

The girls are wrapping up their school year and they are so excited to begin home-schooling again!  My husband is busy working and taking care of us.  He even seeks out other offices to work at on his one day off so that he can provide for us.  We are still trying to get back on track after the unemployment we went through.  I feel so thankful to be home with the kids.

2nd Ultrasound

I was a nervous wreck today.  It was the day for our 2nd ultrasound.  I was so nervous laying there on the table waiting.  But, once again we saw a healthy baby with a strong heartbeat!  I was able to hear the heartbeat again and I saw little arms and a little head.  The baby had grown immensely in the past two weeks!  It was so reassuring to see.  I go back again May 30th and am already counting down the days!

7 Weeks 2 Days

Just a warning...you will see lots of posts this pregnancy.  This blog was created for my family so we have a record of our lives together and also for extended family to keep up to date on us.  So I am sorry if you find these updates dull. LOL!
Today I had my weekly blood draw for Progesterone.  Last week my level was 21.19 and today it was up to 24.0.  Still on the low end of normal but they want it over 20 and they want it to keep going up so I will take it!  I go  next Monday for another ultrasound and another blood draw.  I don't like all the needle sticks but I like having a thorough doctor and if a healthy baby is the result then they stick me as much as they want!
Have a great Monday!

Make a Wish

Today we were outside enjoying the beautiful weather.  The Hippie brought me a dandelion puff and told me I could make a wish.  She said, "I think I know what you'll wish for, but you don't have to tell me because then it won't come true."  Then she said, "Mommy, do you believe that wishes really come true?"  I said, "Well, I believe that sometimes we wish for something and God let's it happen so it seems like a wish come true, but really it's a gift from God."  She said, "Yeah, I had some of mine answered.  When Daddy really needed a job, I came outside one day and wished on 16 dandelions that he would get a job and that he would not have to leave us all the time anymore.  Then after the baby died, I wished that we would get another brother or sister and now we have this new baby so I believe that too."
Melt. My. Heart.  Memories like this need to be blogged so we never forget.

7 Weeks and Counting!

We are 7 weeks pregnant today!  The baby is now the size of your average blueberry, about .51" long.  Right now the baby's brain generates about 100 new brain cells every minute! Maybe that is why I am so tired??
Nothing much to report this week as far the baby goes.  We had the ultrasound that I blogged about.  I go in Monday for more lab work.
The only other big news is that I went garage saling today! The first of the season.  It was so much fun! My sister watched the kids and my friend and I hit some community sales.  I spent $24.35 and came home with so many bags my friend had to help me carry them inside.  While we were out I saw someone, well several someones, with riding mowers for sale.  We need a riding mower when we finally move to our new house.  I took their information and passed it along to my husband.  And tonight he went and bought one!
All in all it was a great weekend!
Happy Cinco de Mayo!

Baby's First Appointment

Today was quite possibly one of the slowest days ever.  Today was our first appointment for this pregnancy.  If you have ever lost a baby, you will know the level of nerves I had.  I was sick to my stomach all morning and the time was just dragging.  Finally it was time to go.  Luckily, my husband had the day off and he was able to go with me.  It was nice driving with the wind in our hair.  He kept me laughing and talking and the trip went pretty quickly.  We were called back and had to wait maybe 10 minutes to be seen.  The doctor came in and knew I was nervous.  The minute our baby popped onto the ultrasound screen she said, "THERE'S THE HEARTBEAT!!!"  Sure enough we saw a small sweet head, little arm buds and a flashing, beating heart!!!!  I was crying tears of joy and honestly felt like I just couldn't breathe.  I had kept bracing for bad news and there was nothing but great news!!! The baby is measuring exactly on track.  We are 6 weeks 4 days and the baby was measuring 6 weeks 5 days! The doctor said it all looks just perfect.  This pregnancy is going to be more closely monitored.  I will, for at least the next 10 weeks, be going in for weekly blood draws.  And every other week we will get an ultrasound just to check on the baby and partially to calm our nerves.  After the appointment I just felt like skipping and screaming.  We celebrated by getting a small treat at McDonald's together and then came back home.  I know I am going to be more nervous with this baby but I am as relaxed as I will get and celebrating our new baby! We feel so blessed by this little one already.
