Mosquitoes and a Steal!

Our poor girls were attacked by mosquitoes! They are covered in bites. I think the Hippie has 24 on ONE leg plus more all over. I guess we have mosquitoes at our new place. If you have advice on getting rid of them...please share! We had just studied mosquitoes in school the other day. The Hippie said, "So, mosquitoes stick that long thing into our skin and suck out our blood and all they give us is an itchy lump? Well, why did God make them?" We actually googled it and gave her an answer, but it sure did not help her itchies.
On a MUCH happier note, we decided to do school in the evening and hit some garage sales this morning. We came across this beautiful house in the country and they had a lot of things for sale. But, they had this big, beautiful patio set. It was a big rectangular table with a glass top, a huge umbrella and 6 comfy chairs with cushions. We estimated that this set would normally be around $700 new. We paid..... $125! It looks so great out on our new deck and once we come up with a solution for the mosquitoes...we plan on being out there all the time!

There's some sort of spray you can buy at Lowe's to spray in the grass that is supposed to get rid of mosquitoes. Other than that, the only advice is to use bug spray or get one of those Off things you clip onto your clothes to keep bugs away. BYW, why did God make mosquitoes?

LOL Cathy! He made them to feed the fishes and frogs and lizards!

I'm with Cathy...we had a horrible mosquito problem at our house in KY thanks to a neighbor who left a kiddie pool in their backyard that was gross!
Obviously check to see if you have standing water anywhere as that makes them worse but then buy the Cutter mosquito spray that hooks to your house. We sprayed it all over our grass and it really helped!

Good luck!

I must repeat what Heather said... look around for standing water-- you can use bleach in the water to kill the larvae, there are tablets for the same purpose. You could also put citronella plants on your patio and get some of those torches... I am not sure they really work, but we use them cateringoutside often along with Yard Guard spray-- which is like the personal bug spray for your lawn and furniture. Next spring, if you are there put up some Martin houses. These birds eat up all of our mosquitos until Fall when they leave. Bat boxes also help, but I don't know much about them, you can google it. My parents have the same problem. Their mosquitos are awful and I think it is because of their very shaded yard-- the dew stays a long time. (sorry for the epic responce.)

I don't know how to get rid of them altogether, but there's an Avon product called Skin So Soft that apparently keeps them away better than Off! bug repellent. In addition to removing sources of standing water from the home environment, you could also put things in the yard that attract fishes, frogs and lizards so they can eat them all up.

Last night at an outdoor wedding, we used (Off brand I think) coils. They work by burning slowly, but with more smoke I guess in the are. They seemed to work really well. It just burns very slow-- one coild lasted from 6-10p. It comes with this cute little terra cotta pat to put it in.
