Bowling

We had a great time with my friends and the girls friends today. We went bowling! I think it wore everyone out! Afterwards I took the girls to McDonalds and then came home. The oldest helped me make dinner and it was delicious! After that I put together my first real sewing project. I had some problems but it did turn out ok. It was ready made fabric and I basically just put it together, but I like to think that it took at least a little bit of talent. Maybe not. It was still gratifying to see it turn out and fit her!! Oh, I knew someone said something funny! Our oldest was talking to my mom and wanted to tell her about bowling. She said, "I even scored a STARE!" Ha! She meant spare, but it was super cute! Then she was telling her about a movie we rented and she said there was a talking "Hedgehock". Plus she was telling my mom about the museum and was rehashing what we did. While we were there, I took her to a display that highlighted what smoking does to your body. She asked why they showed a baby there. I explained that smoking can cause problems to your babies. Here is what she got... "Nana, I learned that if you smoke your baby will DIE! Mommy said so!" Kids! Gotta love 'em!

Baked Cod

My husband, during his time as a marine, spent a few years out in California. He fell in love with Fish Tacos. I have always wanted to try and make some here. So tonight I did it. Evidently he liked them but they are not California fish tacos. I baked my fish and I guess they deep fry theirs. But, all that aside, everyone liked them. The youngest actually ate a lot of the fish and said she wants to eat it every day. I told her it was cod. Later they were in their bath and I gave them a bath fizzy. They asked why there was no bubbles. I told them, they make fizz and make the water smell good. The youngest said, "Well, I don't smell nothing 'cept cod." Ha!!! You gotta love that girl!

Museum

Today we had the pleasure of an entire day with NO plans. My husband suggested the local science museum. We took off and spent a good 3 hours there! It was AWESOME! The girls (and us) had a total blast! I was excited because we got to see an IMAX show about the wild coast of Africa. I have wanted to take the girls to an IMAX for a long time. It was worth the wait! They loved it! Sorry, no photos. We forgot the camera! But we had a great memory building day. We did upset the youngest though. She is always happy.... as long as she is not hungry. Well, the IMAX show was at 1 and it was almost 3 by the time we landed at a place for lunch. She was silent and pretty much glaring at us. After devouring a roll, some of my soup and finally her own meal, her smile was back in place again! Phew! Tonight was scary though. The girls were in bed and I heard a noise. It was a siren. I changed the station and we were under a tornadoe watch. As we were listening they said it was pretty much headed for our house. Yeah. It was creepy. My husband pulled out a mattress, we woke up the girls and got ready but thankfully the Lord was watching over us and we are all fine! I hate tornadoes and I KNOW I will dream about them tonight. Hopefully the girls will dream about science stuff instead! =)

A day in the life of a Sonlight home-schooler

Just thought I'd photograph a typical day for us while doing school. It is so much fun! Most days it takes about 1 1/2 hours. Everything I show was included in our kit. I know I sound like a commercial for Sonlight, but honestly I never thought I could do this and they have helped make it possible! Now I want everyone to experience it. Today was a bad day with the girls but still, I am thankful I could take pictures of them in the middle of the day, make them a hot, fresh lunch and hear their giggles all day long.

Sleep

Great Day

Today was awesome! We had a playdate with my new friend and her twins. All our kids are within 15 months of each other so they had a blast! We had an indoor picnic and then beat the rain by playing on an inside playland at church. It was so much fun! To top it off I made cookies for my husband, he got home from work early and got to play with the girls and for the finale we had Awana's and American Idol!

Nothing to blog about

I wish I had something really great and exciting to blog, but I do not. How about I share a super easy, super yummy and at least SOMEWHAT healthy recipe we had tonight?

I do not have a name for it but you can call it Mexican Chicken Pasta =)

2 cups cooked and chopped chicken
1 1/2 cups salsa con queso
1/2 cup milk
diced tomatoes
diced green onions
1 can drained cord
1 can drained black beans

1 box penne pasta

Cook pasta according to directions.

In another bowl mix first 7 ingredients.

Drain pasta and return to pot. add contents of other bowl, mix well and enjoy! 20 minutes top to bottom and very good! We always use whole wheat pasta so the only not so great feature is the salsa con queso. It was a hit for everyone here! Even the veggies since they are covered in sauce! Please let me know if you ever try it.

Outside Tea Party

For weeks, maybe even months, the girls have been begging to use their kitchen toys to host a tea party. I had been delaying because I was not excited about the clean up. Today was beautiful though so I suggested we take it outside! Suffice it to say it was a hit with all their friends!

Zoo!

Yeah, we went to the Zoo today. It was a complete blast! The girls got to pet a kangaroo, a small boa constricter, a wallabee, some goats and maybe something else. It was so much fun! There were two VERY funny things that happened. First, we saw a man feeding some turtles and he was giving them vegetables. Our oldest said, "Man. I wish I lived with turtles. I would eat all their broccoli!" Second, we just found the lions and secured a spot to view them when the male lion started mounting the female. All the adults were shocked and the kids clueless! It was great! On the way home we tried a yummy new place and then got groceries.

Time with Daddy

Today was great! We all got up and hit some garage sales. The girls got to go to Mom's Out, Kids In. My husband and I spent those 3 hours drinking coffee and browsing stores together. Once we got home, he took the girls out for ice cream, duck feeding and a trip to the lake! They spent about 3 hours together! They all came home dirty and happy! While they were gone, I switched the winter clothes out for summer and it felt great! The girls came home and were so excited to see their summer clothes and shoes. We put them in the shower and after about 3 minutes they got out. I asked why and the oldest said, "we are just so excited about our clothes that we cannot even think about playing in the shower!" They are so funny! Oh, when we picked them up today we were asking what all they did at MOKI. They were telling us what they ate for lunch. The oldest mentioned just eating one cookie. I said, "You each only got 1?" She said, "Well we knew you would only want us to have 1 AND we remembered to eat our fruit first." We praised them and then rolled the windows down and screamed through the streets about how great our girls are! They LOVED it!

Ants

Tonight the girls and I were eating dinner and the youngest asked me what ants ate. We went through a litany of items that they would eat. Then she says, "Well, when they are so tiny how do they do things they do like sleep?" We talked about that for a little bit. Then she asks, "Do ants have ears?" Where does she come up with this stuff? I need to quit blogging and google the answer.

lookie here

I know it is common knowledge that I have the best husband ever, but just in case you did not know.... here is further proof! Look what he got me! I am real excited! I have NO clue how to sew but am excited to learn. I am being brave and posting my first thing I made which was a napkin. It is pretty rough but since I have never even touched a machine before I was still pleased! If you have any sewing ideas/advice, comment away!
